#134. The Auld Toll, 37–39 Leven St, Edinburgh

I only stopped in to use the washroom, which it turns out was out of order. A border collie named Hamish kept barking at me. With everyone staring at me, I felt compelled to order something. The tap selection was limited, and so I asked for a half-pint of Caledonia Best from Wellpark Brewery in Glasgow. The woman behind the bar proceeded to pour me a full pint, only to have the keg run out partway through the pour. At this point I really just wanted to get the hell out of there.

Can anyone explain to me why there is something like 30% unemployment in many parts of Glasgow but a very obvious shortage of skilled trades in this country? Would it kill someone to learn how to fix a toilet, a leaky tap, or a photocopier, a cash register, a broken floor tile, or replace a light bulb, or the missing sparker on a gas stove, or ...

What's with this "an engineer has been called" bullshit? You don't need an engineer to fix a photocopier or a debit machine for crying out loud. You need someone who gives a shit and can read the fucking manual!
